Palo Santo literally means holy wood and, as with white sage, its use originates from the Native Indians in South America. Centuries ago they used it during ceremonies to clear the spiritual aura, and to heal from negative influences. Now people choose to buy the holy wood to clean their houses, or just for the fragrance in its purest form. It can be described as a warm, woody and light aroma, sometimes with a delicate sweet touch. In comparison with white sage, Palo Santo gives off a very mild odor.
